The Fondation Toms Pauli is preparing a major event dedicated to one of the key figures of the twentieth-century tapestry revival: Jean Lurçat (1892-1966). Scheduled for 2028 at the Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne, this new exhibition will shed light on an aspect of his career still largely unexplored: the special links that Lurçat maintained with Switzerland.
Through a large body of work mainly from Swiss collections, the public will be able to discover Lurçat's decisive commitment to the recognition and promotion of tapestry art, and his major role in the creation and influence of the Lausanne Biennials, which contributed to shape the history of this art, as well as his rich collaborations with publishers and gallery owners, including Alice and Pierre Pauli and Pierre Cailler.
This exhibition will invite the public to dive into the world of an artist whose legacy continues to influence our view of contemporary textile creation. See you in 2028 to rediscover Jean Lurçat in a new light!
