The
Fondation Toms Pauli has as its mission the
study, conservation and promotion of collections of textile art, both
antique and modern, belonging to the State of Vaud.
This heritage is made up of an important
group of European tapestries and embroideries of the 16th–19th
century bequeathed by Mary Toms in 1994, as well as contemporary textile
art works (1961–1992) from the Pierre Pauli Association and sundry
donors. The Foundation has also inherited the archives of the Centre International
de la Tapisserie Ancienne et Moderne (CITAM), organiser of the International
Tapestry Biennials held in Lausanne from 1962 to 1995. Its documentation
centre is open to researchers.
Located in Lausanne, the Foundation does not as yet
have any permanent display space. Nevertheless, it organises exhibitions
in Swiss and foreign museums and publishes catalogues. The collections
can be viewed on the occasion of temporary exhibitions.
The Fondation Toms Pauli has the sad duty to announce the decease of Professor Pierre Magnenat (January 2009)
Doctor, collector, patron, teacher, businessman, writer, for more than forty years he played a major role in the development and promotion of contemporary textile arts. In 2006 he donated to the Fondation the collection he had built over the years with his wife. |
