2008

Tapestry in the Baroque: Threads of Splendor
Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York – (October 17- January 6, 2008)
Palacio Real, Madrid – (March 6 - June 1, 2008)
One of the most important tapestries in our collection, Apollo and Daphne, woven in the Barberini workshop in Rome in 1659-1660, travelled to New York and Madrid for this major show, which was the first comprehensive survey of top-quality 17th-century European tapestry.

         
 



2007

Visions du déluge [Visions of the Deluge]
Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts, Lausanne – Switzerland (February 2nd - April 29th 2007)
Four monumental tapestries from the series of the Life of Noah, woven in Brussels at the beginning of the 17th Century, were on loan to the exhibition.

       
 



2006

Gilbert Bretterbauer – Vernetzungen
Museum Bellerive, Zurich – Switzerland (October 13, 2006 – January 21, 2007)
The viennese artist and designer Gilbert Bretterbauer has selected significant works from the collections of the Fondation Toms Pauli and the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich in order to comment on the present situation of textile art.

Elsi Giauque: Space Sculpture Transparency
Aarbergerhus, Ligerz – Switzerland (September 20 – October 1, 2006)
Artworks by the Swiss textile artist Elsi Giauque from the 1950’s to the 1970’s play with the notion of space. They bear testimony to the evolution of her work from tapestry to textile sculpture. This retrospective shows pieces from the artist’s succession and from private and public collections.

       
 



2005

Filophilo – 2005 Miniartextil Como
15th edition of the international contemporary textile art exhibition
Church of San Francesco, Como – Italy (24 September - 29 October 2005)
This yearly show gathers mini-textiles by international artists, selected by a jury. The Fondation Toms Pauli has contributed to the historical section of this exhibition by the loan of 9 major pieces.

2004-2005

Flemish Tapestries of the 16th to 18th Century from the Toms Pauli Foundation
Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts, Lausanne – Switzerland (24 September 2004 – 9 January 2005) Selection of 20 monumental pieces illustrating the thematic variety and the quality of production of Flemish workshops over three centuries. In order to give an idea of the effect of origin, the tapestries were grouped together in series (or sets).

Contempory Textile Art. Collection of the Mary Toms – Pierre Pauli Foundation, International Tapestry Biennials in Lausanne (1962–1995)
Musée Jean Lurçat et de la tapisserie contemporaine, Angers – France (21 June – 16 November 2003)
An important group of works from the Foundation, reflecting the textile creations presented at the Lausanne Biennials, exhibited in a museum dedicated to contemporary tapestry work.

       
 



2000

Contempory Textile Art. The Collection of the Pierre Pauli Association
Espace Arlaud, Lausanne – Switzerland (6 July – 27 August 2000)
Exhibition of 49 contemporary works from the Pierre Pauli Association after this collection had been given to the newly created Fondation Toms Pauli. Illustrating the revolution in textile art of the late 20th century, the collection groups together various trends: tapestries, reliefs, soft sculptures and installations.

Ancient Histories, Tapestries from the Toms Collection
Musée Romain, Lausanne-Vidy – Switzerland (11 October 1997 – 11 January 1998)
Exhibition of 10 pieces dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, depicting mythological scenes or illustrating episodes from ancient history.

       
 



1997

Toms Collection. Of Threads and Colours: Tapestries of the 16th to 18th Century
Payerne Abbey and Museum – Switzerland (4 May – 22 September 1997)
First public display of around 20 pieces, including some of the most important in the collection, on their return to Switzerland following restoration. The tapestries came from major European workshops in Flanders, France, England and Italy.
